SUDAN

As diving recently has been permitted by the government of Sudan - this extremely remote and rarely dove area sports a wide variety of exclusive dive sites

The diving is Sudan is for relativley experinced divers only, we woul drecommedn minimum 50 logged dives. There is no recompression chamber in easy reach and the dives can quite deep with current. Having said that the rewards and immense, the divining here will take your breath away; it is simply the best !!! Lots and big stuff (hammerheads, big reef sharks, schooling barracuda, dolphins etc) and beautiful pristine coral walls.

Among the sites we visit are Shab Suadi, and the wreck "Blue Bell", a ship loaded with Japanese cars. The bow is at 15m and the stern lies in 70m, watch out for Tiger sharks who are known to inhabit the deeper parts of the wreck.

Shab Rumi where Jaques Cousteau's research station "Precontinent II" still sits intact on the bottom of the sea. Shab Rumi -this dive could seriously be called challenging as the reef is swept by strong currents. The gentle slope takes you to 20m and from there the wall drops to 700m. On all sides of this reef you will find all the species of the Red Sea, including large Barracudas and large Sharks which will come close to investigate.

Sanganeb reef, with it's large lighthouse, is an eldorado for UW-photographers. They can spend days or even weeks at this site exploring the great dive sites of the areas natural bounty. Wingate Reef, the playground of manta rays also spots the wreck "Umbria" with it's cargo of 360.000 bombs. Sawakin with it's 20 islands are inhabited by many birds but is also a fantastic dive location that we can visit if the weather allows. Sudan offers a great variety of first class dive sites. You should need at least 2 weeks to explore some of them.
